In the modern workplace, it is essential for employees to be IT literate. However, for many rural dwellers it is difficult to access suitable training due to transport limitations work commitments or even fear of the unknown. Recognising this, Rural Down Partnership resolved to deliver a specific IT programme targeted at individuals with little or no knowledge of IT.
Mobile Training Solutions successfully tendered for the Programme and delivered the Microsoft accredited IC3 course to 44 individuals from the target groups including, fishermen, their wives and partners, women, farmers and farming families, young people and the long term unemployed from the Ballynahinch, Dromore and Portavogie rural areas through the use of mobile, custom-built, multi-media training suites. Such was the success of the initial course the Partnership extended funding to ensure an additional 56 individuals from the target groups could benefit from the innovative training course. Now the rural micro-business community can benefit from a increased skills base and the successful trainees will have enhanced employment opportunities.
